Falkland Islands and the Battle for the Artic

It is April 3rd, 1982 and several land disputes are permeating the international arena, inspiring much concern for present and future international security. Just yesterday, Argentinian troops put boots on the ground of the Falkland Islands and, in doing so, destroyed 15 years of negotiations with the United Kingdom, which also lay claim to the Islands. How can a disastrous and costly war be prevented?

Delegates will tackle questions of colonialism and its ramifications and the economic states of Europe and South America. Your decisions will dictate the future of newly formed post-World War II alliances, land disputes, and the geopolitics of South America and beyond. Meanwhile, the Arctic is undergoing turmoil. Between newly discovered oil, increased militarization efforts by countries bordering the Arctic, and the potential to host incredible scientific exploration, control of the Arctic has become a hot commodity. Unfortunately, the Arctic’s resources are finite, invoking the possibility of international conflict over such resources. While there is no immediate dispute, this relative peace makes room for tensions to rise, inspiring future conflict in an entirely new arena. Delegates, the future of your countries, the lives of millions, and the future of land disputes all lie in your hands. Good luck!
